Observations

I've been going to a High School to do observation for a class I have. One of the students there asked me why it was that ^d/_dx(sinx) = cosx, ^d/_dx(cosx)= -sinx. I thought about it, and it can be proved using the Maclaurin series, but a High School student hasn't seen those yet. So...I wonder if there is another way to explain it to them?
Maybe that's why we're just asked to memorize them. I don't really remember what my High School teacher told me.
